Paola Chartered, Gardner Organized
The Kiwanis Club of Paola was chartered with the theme “Improving the World; One Child and One Community at a Time.” The club was the first club chartered in the Kansas District in 2004-05.
Going Strong Since 1965
The Manhattan Solar Kiwanis Club celebrated their 40th Anniversary on Sunday, October 16, 2005, at the K-State Student Union Ballroom. What a celebration it was. Many unique historical memories and activities were highlighted during the evening.
Together We Can
Committee Chairs met in Salina for a ‘Working Together Retreat’ on September 11, 2005. Governor John Fajen called together a select group of his District Team members to develop goals and committee structures throughout the District, Division, and Clubs to best serve the Kansas District.
District Secretary's Notes
The Kansas Kiwanis District cash drawing promotion will be extended through the official governor visits. Purchase a $100 ticket for a chance to win one of three cash prizes: $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000. The last Governor’s visit is December 11, 2005, Division 5, in Council Grove.
Guest Tour Showcases Emporia’s History
This year’s Guests Tour features a slice of life from Emporia’s past. The tour will be Saturday, January 21, 2006 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Cost of the tour is $15.00.
Ride Into Emporia for Mid-Winter
The Kiwanis Clubs of Emporia invite all Kiwanians and their spouses and guests to come to Emporia for the Mid-Winter Conference and a full fledged Western Round Up. Help brand Kiwanis and dig out those cowboy boots, belts, and hats. The Round up will begin on Friday, January 20 at the Best Western Hospitality House.
Are You Keeping Your Club’s History Alive?
Does your club have an historian? Let's begin this Kiwanis year initiating or continuing with a record of each club event. In order to preserve Kansas Kiwanis, keeping the club/division information in a notebook, binder or scrapbook is a must.
Supporting Special Olympics
I recently asked J. J. Johnson, Special Olympics of Kansas, about the participation of Kansas Kiwanis Clubs in Special Olympics. I was gratified to find that SOKS has a rather lengthy list of participants.
Oregon Trail Returns to Tecumseh
On September 10 the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh culminated months and hundreds of hours of work with a dedication ceremony of the Oregon Trail Triangle Park at the entrance to Tecumseh. It was a beautiful day and Ken Ertl, President of the club, was the Master of Ceremonies.
Russell Charters New Aktion Club
Russell chartered a new Aktion Club on September 23, 2005. The new club has 16 members recruited from Disabled Citizens of Northwest Kansas and the surrounding community.
Circle K Has Bull Session Campout and Fundraiser
This year’s Fall Social was an awesome time, and for all of those who missed it this year better luck next time. The campout took place at Camp Alexander near Emporia. Circle K members from around the state came together to participate in leadership and renew old friendships. With wilderness all around, we still maintained the amenities of plumbing and electricity.
One Key Clubber’s Story of Service
During my freshman year of high school, one of my teachers convinced me to join Key Club. He told me that this would be a club that I could really get involved in. I had never heard of the club before, but I decided I would give it a shot. Looking back, I see that it was the best decision I could have made.
Robert P. Connelly Award Presented Posthumously
The Kiwanis Club of Ellsworth honored Kevin D. Shaw by presenting his family the Kiwanis International Robert P. Connelly award for heroism on September 18, 2005 at St. Bernard’s Parish Hall in Ellsworth.
